Numerosarjoja

Numerosarjoja, or number sequences, are ordered lists of numbers that follow a rule. An infinite numerosarja is defined by a rule that assigns the nth term a_n, while a finite numerosarja has a last term. Sequences are used to model progressions, study functional behavior, and explore limits, recurrence relations, and patterns.

Common types of numerosarjoja include arithmetic, geometric, and more complex patterns. An arithmetic numerosarja has a constant difference d between consecutive terms: a_n = a_1 + (n−1)d. Example: 2, 5, 8, 11, … with d = 3. A geometric numerosarja has a constant ratio r between consecutive terms: a_n = a_1 r^(n−1). Example: 3, 9, 27, 81, … with r = 3. Fibonacci-type or other recursive sequences are defined by relations between terms, such as a_n = a_{n−1} + a_{n−2}, producing 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, …

Notation and properties are central to the study of numerosarjoja. The nth term is often denoted a_n. For a finite arithmetic series, the sum S_n of the first n terms is S_n = n/2 [2a_1 + (n−1)d]. For a finite geometric series, S_n = a_1 (1 − r^n)/(1 − r) when r ≠ 1, and the infinite geometric series sum is a_1/(1 − r) for |r| < 1. Distinguishing between a sequence (the terms) and a series (the sum) is a common topic in analysis.
