Norepinefriiniksi is a Finnish term referring to norepinephrine, also known as noradrenaline. It is a neurotransmitter and a hormone that plays a crucial role in the body's "fight or flight" response. As a neurotransmitter, norepinephrine is released by nerve cells in the brain and central nervous system, influencing attention, arousal, and mood. It is synthesized in the locus coeruleus, a nucleus in the pons of the brainstem.

When released as a hormone by the adrenal glands, norepinephrine circulates in the bloodstream, causing a cascade of physiological changes. These include increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, increased blood flow to muscles, and a release of glucose for energy. These actions prepare the body to either confront a perceived threat or to escape from it.

Norepinephrine is part of the catecholamine family, which also includes dopamine and epinephrine (adrenaline). Its effects are mediated by binding to adrenergic receptors throughout the body. Imbalances in norepinephrine levels have been associated with various neurological and psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
