Nonvisible

Nonvisible is an adjective used to describe something that cannot be observed by the unaided human eye, or that lies outside the range of normal perception for a given observer or instrument. It is the negation of "visible" and is used across disciplines to mark limits of perception, measurement, or representation.

In science and engineering, nonvisible commonly refers to components of the electromagnetic spectrum beyond visible light, such as infrared, ultraviolet, X-ray, gamma-ray, microwave, and radio waves. Objects or phenomena may be nonvisible to the eye but are detectable with specialized sensors, cameras, telescopes, and spectrometers, enabling imaging, spectroscopy, and analysis.

In computing and accessibility, "nonvisible" can describe elements or data not shown in the normal user interface, such as hidden fields, metadata, or content intended for assistive technologies like screen readers, as well as nonvisible aspects of a system's state.

The term also appears in discourse about perception and disability, where "nonvisible" or "invisible" disabilities refer to conditions that are not outwardly apparent but affect a person’s functioning. The interpretation of "nonvisible" is context-dependent and can vary by field or application.
