Nonteilungsfähig

Nonteilungsfähig is a German adjective formed from non- (not) and teilungsfähig (capable of being divided). It describes something that cannot be meaningfully partitioned into parts without losing its essential function, value, or integrity. In standard German, the more common spellings are nicht teilungsfähig or nicht teilbar; nonteilungsfähig appears mainly in specialized texts or as a stylistic variant.

In property and economic contexts, nonteilungsfähig refers to assets or units that cannot be practically subdivided among owners without destroying usefulness or value. Examples include a unique work of art, a building designed to function as a single unit, or a complex machine whose parts are interdependent. Partitioning such objects would reduce utility or market value, so ownership or use is treated as a whole. Real estate discussions may describe a plot as nicht teilungsfähig if subdivision would create nonviable parcels or violate functional requirements.

In biology, the standard term is nicht teilungsfähig, used to describe cells that have ceased to divide, such as many postmitotic neurons or mature muscle cells. The adjectival form nonteilungsfähig may appear in scientific writing that borrows from German roots, but nicht teilungsfähig remains the conventional expression in this field.

In economics and law, the related concept of unteilbare Güter (indivisible goods) denotes items whose purchase or use is inherently lumped together and cannot be supplied in arbitrarily small units. This contrasts with divisible or negotiable assets that can be partitioned or sold in smaller portions.
