Nominalne

In Polish, nominalne serves as an adjective form corresponding to the English nominal, and it appears in discussions of grammar, economics, and data measurement. The underlying source is Latin nomen, meaning name.

In linguistics, nominalne refers to elements that function as nouns or relate to noun phrases. This includes nouns, pronouns, and adjectives that can operate as nouns within a sentence. A related concept is nominalization, the process of turning a verb into a noun, as in the English word “decision” from “to decide.” Nominal phrases typically consist of a noun and its modifiers and may serve as subjects or objects within clauses.

In economics and accounting, nominalne describes values stated in current monetary terms without adjusting for inflation. Nominal prices, wages, and interest rates reflect the currency’s face value at the time, contrasting with real values that account for changes in the price level. This distinction is essential for interpreting time-series economic data and for comparing purchasing power across different periods.

In statistics and data measurement, nominal data (on a nominal scale) are categorical and lack an intrinsic order. Examples include categories such as country of origin, type of product, or blood type. Analyses of nominal data rely on frequencies and modes rather than arithmetic comparisons or rankings.
