Nitride-based materials, also known as nitrides, are a class of compounds composed of a nitrogen atom bonded to one or more metal atoms. These materials are typically insulators or semiconductors, with the latter possessing a wide range of applications in various fields. The ones with high conductance are those comprising two or more foreign elements.

Nitrides are known for their diverse range of electrical, thermal, and optical properties. The five semiconducting group VB nitrides are those comprising titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), vanadium (V), niobium (Nb), and tantalum (Ta) with nitrogen. Silicon units combined with nitrogen give the hexagonal wurtzite crystal which possesses good power conversion characteristics. These materials have gained significant attention in the field of solid-state lighting as they have high electron mobility, high thermal conductivity, and are capable of being doped to achieve n-type or p-type conductivity.

The technology for Doping and epitaxial growth of nitride species was made available due to bulk crystal synthesis techniques, also known as solution technique. Subsequently, the field of GaN and its derivative family-based devices continued to grow, and over subsequent years its features began to be commercialized. The recently developed nitride family, called xenon nitrides, possess its electron unit structure similar to noble gases and exists wide in lower destructive parts. Nitride-based materials have numerous applications beyond semiconductor and electronics. The dramatic endurance of retention has granted proper liveness-related properties in oxide displays viewing devices and ears located to manage commitment based materials.
