Nitratpräparaten
Nitratpräparaten, also known as nitrate preparations, are medicinal substances containing nitrate compounds. These preparations are primarily used for their vasodilatory effects, meaning they help to widen blood vessels. This widening of blood vessels can lead to a reduction in blood pressure and improved blood flow. The most common application of nitratpräparaten is in the treatment of angina pectoris, a condition characterized by chest pain due to insufficient blood supply to the heart muscle. By dilating coronary arteries, these medications can increase oxygen supply to the heart and alleviate chest pain. Nitrate preparations are available in various forms, including sublingual tablets, transdermal patches, oral capsules, and intravenous infusions. The choice of formulation depends on the intended use and the desired speed of action. Common examples of nitrate compounds used in pharmaceuticals include nitroglycerin and isosorbide dinitrate. While effective, nitratpräparaten can have side effects such as headaches, dizziness, and flushing due to vasodilation. They should be used under medical supervision, and patients are often advised to avoid certain medications, like phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, which can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure when taken concurrently with nitrates.
