Nisäkässolu

Nisäkässolu, which translates to "mammalian cell" in English, refers to the fundamental building block of any mammal's body. These eukaryotic cells share common characteristics with other animal cells, such as the presence of a nucleus, cytoplasm, and a cell membrane. Within the nucleus, they contain the genetic material in the form of DNA, organized into chromosomes. The cytoplasm houses various organelles, including mitochondria responsible for energy production, ribosomes for protein synthesis, and the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus involved in protein modification and transport.

Mammalian cells exhibit a wide range of specialized functions, contributing to the diverse tissues and organs found in mammals. For instance, nerve cells (neurons) are specialized for transmitting electrical and chemical signals, muscle cells (myocytes) for contraction, and red blood cells for oxygen transport. This cellular specialization allows for the complex functioning of mammalian organisms. Mammalian cells reproduce through mitosis for growth and repair, and in the case of reproductive cells (gametes), through meiosis for sexual reproduction.
