Nisjekanaler

The word combines nisje ('niche') and kanal ('channel'), and in English-language sources the term is rarely used, with writers typically describing the features as rock-cut channels, niche-type gullies, or alcove channels.

In geomorphology, nisjekanaler are typically found in fractured or jointed rock where water concentrates in preexisting niches, enhancing weathering and erosion. Over time, small, steep-sided channels can develop, sometimes forming a network draining a niche or alcove into a larger stream or coastal inlet.
