Nirbhao

Nirbhao is a Punjabi term meaning fearless or without fear. It is formed from nir- (without) and bhau (fear). In Sikhism, Nirbhao is used as an attribute of the divine and of the ideal devotee, signifying fearlessness that arises from spiritual realization and divine grace.

In Sikh scriptures, Nirbhao appears in key formulations such as the Mool Mantra, where the Creator is described as Nirbhao along with other attributes like Nirvair (without enmity) and Akal (timeless). The pairing of Nirbhao with Nirvair highlights a conception of courage rooted in righteousness, justice, and devotion rather than mere physical boldness.
