Newhaven
Newhaven is a place name used for several locations in the United Kingdom. The most prominent is Newhaven, a town and port in East Sussex, England. It lies on the south coast at the mouth of the River Ouse, about five miles east of Lewes and roughly ten miles from Brighton. The town developed as a fishing and trading port in the 18th and 19th centuries and grew around its harbour. Notable features include Newhaven Fort, a coastal defence constructed in the 19th century, and a harbour that has supported fishing fleets, timber trade, and, historically, cross-channel ferry services to Dieppe. In recent decades the town has seen growth in residential areas, light industry, and leisure activity centered on the marina.
