Neutrofileille

Neutrofileille are a type of white blood cell, also known as leukocytes, that play a crucial role in the innate immune system. They are the most abundant type of granulocyte and the most abundant type of phagocyte in the blood of mammals. Neutrofileille are a critical component of the body's first line of defense against invading microorganisms, particularly bacteria and fungi. Their name is derived from their affinity for neutral dyes when stained in laboratory settings, appearing neither strongly acidic nor strongly basic.

The primary function of neutrofileille is phagocytosis, a process by which they engulf and digest foreign particles, cellular debris, and microbes. Upon detecting an infection or injury, neutrofileille are rapidly recruited to the affected site by chemical signals called chemokines. Once at the site, they can release a variety of antimicrobial substances, including enzymes and reactive oxygen species, to kill pathogens. They also contribute to inflammation by releasing cytokines, which further signal and recruit other immune cells.

Neutrofileille have a segmented nucleus and granular cytoplasm. They are produced in the bone marrow and have a relatively short lifespan, typically circulating in the bloodstream for a few hours to a few days before migrating into tissues. Their presence in high numbers is often indicative of an ongoing infection, particularly bacterial infections, and is a common finding in blood tests. Conditions characterized by a low neutrophil count are known as neutropenia and can significantly impair the body's ability to fight off infections.
