Neutralointiprosessit, or neutralization processes, refer to chemical reactions where an acid and a base react to form a salt and water. This reaction typically involves the combination of hydrogen ions (H+) from the acid with hydroxide ions (OH-) from the base, resulting in the formation of neutral water molecules. The overall pH of the solution moves towards seven, which is considered neutral on the pH scale.

In a typical neutralization reaction, the strength of the acid and base determines the final pH of the salt solution. A strong acid reacting with a strong base will produce a neutral salt solution with a pH of approximately seven. However, if a weak acid reacts with a strong base, the resulting salt solution will be slightly alkaline.
