Neurofysiologické refers to the study of the function of the nervous system. It is a broad field that encompasses the investigation of how nerve cells (neurons) communicate with each other and with other cells in the body. This communication occurs through electrical and chemical signals. Neurophysiology seeks to understand the mechanisms underlying perception, cognition, emotion, and movement.

Synapses are the junctions where neurons transmit signals to other neurons or to effector cells like muscles and glands. The study of these processes involves techniques such as electrophysiology, which measures electrical activity in neurons, and molecular biology, which investigates the proteins and genes involved in neural function.

On a larger scale, neurophysiology explores how networks of neurons work together to perform complex tasks. This includes understanding how sensory information is processed, how memories are formed and retrieved, and how motor commands are generated. Different regions of the brain and spinal cord have specialized roles, and neurophysiologists investigate how these areas interact. Research in neurophysiology can contribute to understanding and treating neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
