Networkyet

Networkyet is an open, federated network protocol and platform designed to enable secure, private, and resilient data exchange across heterogeneous networks. It provides a decentralized routing layer, content-addressed storage, and end-to-end encryption to support messaging, file sharing, and device telemetry without reliance on a single centralized operator.

Origin and development: The project emerged from open‑source communities in the early 2020s. A reference implementation and specification were released by a core collective, followed by additional forks and integrations by independent projects. The ecosystem emphasizes interoperability, portability across devices, and human‑readable governance processes.

Architecture: Networkyet uses a federated overlay of nodes called yets. Nodes discover peers with a gossip-based protocol, route messages with scalable, fault-tolerant algorithms, and rely on transport security (mutual TLS). Data is stored in a content-addressable store with optional versioning, enabling synchronization and rollback. Access control is achieved through capability tokens and encrypted channels.
