NetCfgInstanceId is a registry value used by the Microsoft Windows operating system. It uniquely identifies a specific instance of a network adapter, ensuring that each network connection can be distinguished even if multiple adapters of the same type are present on a system. This identifier is crucial for the operating system to manage and configure network components correctly.

When a new network adapter is installed or detected by Windows, a unique NetCfgInstanceId is generated and stored in the system registry, typically within the adapter's specific configuration keys. This value acts as a persistent handle for that particular network interface. Applications and system services that need to interact with a specific network adapter, such as setting IP addresses, configuring DNS, or managing network connections, rely on this identifier to target the correct hardware.

The NetCfgInstanceId is not directly visible to end-users in most standard interfaces. It is primarily an internal Windows mechanism.
