Nervisüsteemi

Nervisüsteemi, or the nervous system, is a complex network of nerves and cells that transmit signals between different parts of the body. It is responsible for coordinating actions and sensory information by transmitting signals between the brain and the rest of the body, including internal organs. The nervous system is comprised of two main parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).

The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The brain is the control center, processing information and making decisions, while the spinal cord acts as a pathway for signals traveling between the brain and the rest of the body. The peripheral nervous system includes all the nerves outside the CNS. These nerves extend to every part of the body, carrying sensory information to the CNS and motor commands from the CNS to muscles and glands.

The nervous system operates through specialized cells called neurons. Neurons transmit electrochemical signals, called nerve impulses, which allow for rapid communication throughout the body. These impulses travel along the neuron and are transmitted to other neurons or to target cells at junctions called synapses. The nervous system is crucial for a vast range of bodily functions, from basic reflexes to complex thought processes, enabling organisms to interact with their environment and maintain homeostasis.
