Nephronfunktion refers to the functional unit of the kidney, the nephron, and its role in processing blood to produce urine. Each kidney contains millions of nephrons, which are microscopic structures responsible for filtration, reabsorption, and secretion. The process begins in the glomerulus, a network of capillaries where blood is filtered under pressure. This filtration removes waste products, excess water, and electrolytes from the blood, forming a fluid called filtrate.

Following filtration, the filtrate passes through the renal tubule. Here, essential substances like glucose, amino acids, and most of the water and electrolytes are reabsorbed back into the bloodstream. This selective reabsorption ensures that the body retains vital nutrients and maintains proper fluid balance. Simultaneously, the tubule secretes additional waste products and excess ions from the blood into the filtrate, further refining the urine.

The final product, urine, is then transported from the nephrons to the collecting ducts and eventually out of the body. Nephronfunktion is crucial for maintaining homeostasis, regulating blood pressure, and eliminating metabolic waste. Dysfunctions in nephronfunktion can lead to various kidney diseases and systemic health problems.
