Nelitieventtiilejä are a type of valve commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Their primary function is to control the direction of refrigerant flow, enabling the system to switch between cooling and heating modes. This is achieved through a mechanism that redirects the compressed refrigerant, allowing it to either condense in the indoor coil for cooling or in the outdoor coil for heating.

The operation of a nelitieventtiili relies on the manipulation of internal flow paths. Typically, these valves have four ports, hence the name "four-way valve." By shifting an internal slide or spool, the valve directs the high-pressure, high-temperature refrigerant from the compressor to either the indoor or outdoor coil. Simultaneously, it redirects the low-pressure refrigerant returning from the evaporator back to the compressor.

In cooling mode, the nelitieventtiili directs hot gas from the compressor to the outdoor unit, where it releases heat. The indoor coil then acts as the evaporator, absorbing heat from the room. In heating mode, the valve reverses this flow. The hot gas is sent to the indoor coil, where it condenses and releases heat into the space, while the outdoor coil acts as the evaporator, absorbing heat from the outside air.

The control of the nelitieventtiili is usually electronic, activated by a signal from the system's thermostat or control board. This allows for automatic switching between modes based on user settings or ambient conditions.
