Nelijohtokytkentää refers to a four-wire electrical connection method. This method is commonly employed in applications where both power and a signal are transmitted through the same set of wires, or where precise voltage or current measurements are required. The four wires typically consist of two for power supply and two for measurement or signal return. This arrangement helps to minimize the impact of resistance in the connecting wires on the delivered power or measured values. In power delivery, two wires carry the current to the load, and the other two are used to sense the voltage directly at the load terminals. This separate sensing pair ensures that the voltage supplied to the device is accurate, unaffected by the voltage drop that occurs in the power-carrying wires due to their resistance. Similarly, in signal transmission, one pair might carry the signal, while the other pair acts as a reference or ground, improving signal integrity and reducing noise.
