Negated

Negated is the past participle of negate and an adjective used to describe something that has been denied, contradicted, or reversed in some sense.

In grammar, a negated clause expresses negation through a negative marker such as not, no, never, or through negative affixes. The scope of negation determines which elements of the sentence are denied. For example, "The cat did not sleep" negates the predicate "slept."

In logic and formal semantics, negation is a unary operator that inverts the truth value of a proposition: if P is true, ¬P is false, and if P is false, ¬P is true. Classical logic maintains that double negation cancels: ¬¬P is equivalent to P. De Morgan's laws relate negation to conjunction and disjunction, showing how negation distributes over these connectives.

In computer science and mathematics, most languages provide a NOT operator, used in conditional expressions and bitwise operations. Negated forms appear in programming tasks to test absence, contradiction, or to control flow based on the negation of conditions.
