A Nebenstreitfrage, meaning "ancillary dispute" or "subsidiary question" in English, refers to a secondary legal issue that arises during the course of a main legal proceeding. While the primary focus of the litigation is on the central claim, the Nebenstreitfrage concerns a related matter that must be resolved to properly adjudicate the main dispute. This ancillary question might be a preliminary issue, a question of evidence, or a point of interpretation necessary for the court to reach a final decision on the main case.
