Natriumkationeiksi is a Finnish term that translates to "sodium cations" in English. A cation is an ion with a positive electrical charge. Sodium, represented by the chemical symbol Na, is an alkali metal. In its elemental form, sodium has an atomic number of 11, meaning it has 11 protons and 11 electrons, resulting in a neutral charge.

However, sodium readily loses one electron from its outermost electron shell. This loss of an electron leaves the sodium atom with more protons (11) than electrons (10), giving it a net positive charge of +1. This positively charged sodium ion is known as the sodium cation, or natriumkationiksi in Finnish. The most common form of the sodium cation is Na+.
