Nasslaufbuchse

Nasslaufbuchse is a German term that translates to "wet liner" in English. It refers to a specific type of cylinder liner used in internal combustion engines. In this design, the cylinder liner is in direct contact with the engine's coolant, hence the term "wet." This is in contrast to a "dry liner" where the liner is surrounded by the engine block and only indirectly cooled.

The primary advantage of a nasslaufbuchse is its superior heat transfer. By being directly exposed to the coolant, the liner can dissipate heat more effectively, leading to lower operating temperatures and improved engine performance and durability. This efficient cooling can also help reduce thermal stress on the cylinder walls.

Nasslaufbuchsen are typically made from cast iron or steel alloys. They are usually installed into the engine block with sealing rings at the top and bottom to prevent coolant from entering the crankcase or combustion chamber. The outer surface of the nasslaufbuchse is smooth to ensure good contact with the coolant.
