The adenoids, also known as the pharyngeal tonsils, are located in the posterior wall of the nasopharynx. These lymphoid tissues are part of the immune system. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a type of cancer that originates in the nasopharynx. Risk factors include infection with the Epstein-Barr virus and certain genetic predispositions. Symptoms can include nasal obstruction, nosebleeds, hearing loss, and palpable neck masses.

Understanding the nasopharyngeal region is important for diagnosing and treating a range of conditions affecting the upper airway, breathing, and ear health, particularly in pediatric populations.
