Nasalisációt

Nasalisációt is a linguistic phenomenon that occurs when a vowel is produced with air escaping through the nose. This happens when the soft palate is lowered during the articulation of a vowel, allowing air to pass into the nasal cavity. This is in contrast to oral vowels, where the soft palate is raised, directing airflow solely through the mouth.

In many languages, nasalisációt is a distinctive feature that can change the meaning of a word. For instance, in Portuguese, the presence or absence of nasalisációt distinguishes between words like "mão" (hand) and "mao" (he/she goes). French also utilizes nasalisációt extensively, with vowels followed by 'n' or 'm' often becoming nasalized, such as in the word "vin" (wine).

The phonetic symbol used to represent nasalisációt in the International Phonetic Alphabet is a tilde (~) placed above the vowel symbol. Not all languages have phonemic nasalisációt; in some, it may occur as a predictable allophonic variation, meaning it is a natural variation of a sound that doesn't change word meaning. For example, in English, vowels before nasal consonants like /m/ or /n/ are often slightly nasalized, but this does not typically alter the word's meaning.
