Nappuloitaan

Nappuloitaan refers to a traditional Finnish folk game that is played during the Christmas season, particularly around the Christmas Eve (*Jouluaatto*) and Christmas Day (*Joulupäivä*). The game is often associated with the Finnish holiday customs and is enjoyed by both children and adults. It is a simple yet charming activity that involves guessing and storytelling, blending elements of folklore and festive cheer.

The game is typically played in a group, often within a family or among friends. One player, known as the "nappuloitaan master," prepares by writing down the names of various Christmas-related figures, objects, or events on small pieces of paper. These could include characters from Finnish Christmas folklore like the *Joulupukki* (Santa Claus), *Joulumummo* (Christmas Grandmother), or *Kerttu* (a mythical figure tied to Christmas), as well as everyday items like *piirakka* (Christmas cake), *joulukinkku* (Christmas ham), or festive activities such as *joulukonsertti* (Christmas concert). The pieces of paper are then placed in a hat or bowl.

Players take turns drawing a slip of paper and must describe the item or figure in a riddle-like manner without directly naming it. The other players listen carefully and try to guess what is being described. If a player guesses correctly, they become the next "nappuloitaan master" and prepare the next round. The game encourages creativity, memory, and a deeper connection to Finnish holiday traditions.
