Nambas

Nambas refers to a distinctive cultural group found on the island of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu. The name "Nambas" is derived from the traditional penis sheath worn by men, which is made from woven pandanus leaves and is a prominent feature of their attire. This practice has historically been a significant identifier of the Nambas people, though its prevalence has changed over time due to external influences.

The Nambas people have a rich history and a complex social structure, traditionally organized into villages with chiefs. Their way of life has historically been deeply connected to the land and the sea, with subsistence farming and fishing forming the basis of their economy. Traditional ceremonies, storytelling, and a strong oral tradition are important aspects of their cultural heritage.
