Nakkirar

Nakkirar was a celebrated Tamil poet and grammarian who lived in the Sangam period, an era of classical Tamil literature. He is primarily known for his contributions to the Cankam corpus, particularly his authorship of several poems in the Purananuru and Akananuru anthologies, which deal with themes of war, love, and public life. Nakkirar is also credited with composing the Tirumurugatruppadai, a devotional hymn dedicated to the god Murugan, which is considered a masterpiece of Sangam poetry and a significant work in Tamil religious literature.

Beyond his poetic works, Nakkirar is renowned as a prominent grammarian. He is believed to be the author of the Neṭiṉṟiṇai, a commentary on the Nampi Akapporuḷ, a treatise on Tamil grammar and poetics. His grammatical works further solidified his reputation as a scholar and laid foundational principles for the study of the Tamil language.
