NVsensorer

NVsensorer refers to sensors that utilize nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond to detect physical quantities. NV centers are point defects in the diamond crystal lattice where a nitrogen atom replaces a carbon atom, and an adjacent lattice site is vacant. These defects possess unique quantum mechanical properties that are sensitive to their local environment.

The primary principle behind NVsensorer operation is the spin properties of the NV center. When illuminated with a laser, the NV center can be optically pumped into a specific spin state. The spin state of the NV center is then influenced by external magnetic fields, electric fields, temperature, and strain. By measuring the fluorescence intensity or other optical properties of the NV center, these environmental parameters can be deduced.

NVsensorer offer several advantages, including high sensitivity, nanoscale spatial resolution, and operation at room temperature. Their ability to work without complex cooling systems makes them particularly attractive for various applications.

Current and potential applications for NVsensorer are diverse.
