NTPC

NTPC Limited, officially National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, is an Indian public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power. It is one of the largest electricity generating companies in the country and plays a central role in India’s power sector, with activities spanning generation, project development, and related services.

Established in 1975 by the Government of India, NTPC was created to accelerate the development of power generation and supply. Its early focus was on coal-based thermal power plants, but over time the company expanded into other energy sources and activities, including renewable energy, hydro, gas-fired generation, and power trading, as well as engineering, procurement, and construction services for power projects.

NTPC also participates in energy trading and project development, contributing to domestic power supply and the nation’s energy transition.

Governance and structure: NTPC is a government-owned company with a board of directors led by a Chairman and Managing Director. It is classified as a Schedule A Public Sector Enterprise and reports to the government through the Ministry of Power. The organization guides capacity expansion to meet growing demand while pursuing a shift toward cleaner energy and maintained electricity supply.
