When NS records are altered, it directs DNS queries for that domain to a different set of name servers.

This type of modification is typically performed when a domain owner decides to switch DNS hosting providers, moves their website to a new server, or implements a new DNS management system. For example, if a user purchases a new domain and wants to host their website with a particular hosting company, they would update the NS records at their domain registrar to point to the name servers provided by that hosting company.

The process of changing NS records involves logging into the domain registrar's control panel where the domain was registered. Within the domain management section, there will be an option to edit DNS settings, specifically the NS records. The old NS server addresses are replaced with the new ones.

Once the NS record changes are submitted, there is a period of propagation. This means that it takes time for the updated information to spread across the global DNS infrastructure. During this propagation period, which can last anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, some users might still be directed to the old DNS servers, while others will already be using the new ones. After propagation is complete, all DNS queries for the domain will be handled by the newly designated authoritative name servers.
