NS4A

NS4A is a nonstructural protein found in flaviviruses, a genus of viruses that includes important human pathogens like Dengue virus, Zika virus, and Yellow Fever virus. This protein plays a crucial role in the viral life cycle, particularly in the replication of the viral RNA genome.

The NS4A protein is encoded by the viral genome and is synthesized as part of a larger polyprotein that is subsequently cleaved into individual functional proteins. NS4A is a relatively small protein and is embedded within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Its primary function is to act as a membrane-binding platform and a cofactor for other viral nonstructural proteins, most notably NS3.
