NOxredukciós

NOxredukciós refers to the reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx). Nitrogen oxides are a group of gases, primarily nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), that are formed during high-temperature combustion processes. These pollutants contribute to various environmental problems, including smog formation, acid rain, and respiratory issues.

The primary sources of NOx emissions are from combustion in internal combustion engines (vehicles), power plants, and industrial boilers. In the atmosphere, NOx can react with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the presence of sunlight to form ozone, a major component of smog. Acid rain is formed when NOx dissolves in atmospheric water.

NOxredukciós technologies aim to minimize these harmful emissions. A common method for NOx reduction in exhaust systems, particularly in vehicles, is Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). SCR systems inject a reductant, typically urea-based fluid (like AdBlue), into the exhaust stream. This mixture then passes through a catalyst, where the nitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapor.

Another approach is Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). EGR systems reduce NOx formation by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gas back into the engine's combustion chamber. This lowers the combustion temperature, which in turn reduces the rate of NOx formation.

In industrial settings, techniques like low-NOx burners and flue gas treatment methods are employed. Low-NOx burners are designed to alter the combustion process to minimize NOx production. Flue gas treatment often involves technologies similar to SCR or other chemical reduction processes to remove NOx from the exhaust before it is released into the atmosphere. The overall goal of NOxredukciós is to mitigate the environmental and health impacts associated with these emissions.
