NISElements

NISE Elements is an online educational resource developed by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) to support informal science education about nanoscale science, technology, and their societal implications. Funded by the National Science Foundation, it provides encyclopedia-style topic pages, glossary terms, and teaching materials intended for museums, science centers, libraries, classrooms, and other outreach settings. The content covers core topics such as the nanoscale, properties of nanomaterials, methods for observing and measuring at small scales, nanotechnology applications, risk and safety, and ethical and societal considerations. Articles are written for a general audience with clear explanations, real-world examples, and context for ongoing research. In addition to text, NISE Elements includes multimedia resources, diagrams, and activity ideas to support hands-on demonstrations and outreach programs. The resource is designed to be used by educators to plan exhibits, public programs, and classroom activities, often in coordination with other NISE Net materials and programs. It aims to provide accurate, accessible information and to foster discussion about how nanoscale science and technology affects everyday life. While not a peer-reviewed journal, NISE Elements curates vetted content and links to additional sources and references. The project evolves as new developments occur in the field, with periodic updates and additions to its topic pages.
