N7MTase

N7MTase refers to N7-methyltransferase. This is a class of enzymes that catalyze the transfer of a methyl group to the N7 position of a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic base, most commonly guanine. In biological systems, N7-methyltransferases play crucial roles in various cellular processes, including the modification of RNA and DNA.

A prominent example of N7MTase activity is seen in the methylation of the 5' cap of messenger RNA (mRNA). This cap, consisting of a methylated guanosine residue linked via a 5'-5' triphosphate bridge, is essential for mRNA stability, efficient translation initiation, and nuclear export in eukaryotes.
