Mürakompensatsioon

Mürakompensatsioon is a feature found in some audio playback devices and systems designed to adjust the frequency response as the volume level changes. The principle behind mürakompensatsioon is that human hearing sensitivity to different frequencies varies with loudness. At lower volumes, our ears are less sensitive to bass and treble frequencies compared to mid-range frequencies. This phenomenon is often referred to as the Fletcher-Munson curves or equal-loudness contours.

Mürakompensatsioon aims to counteract this effect by boosting the bass and treble frequencies when the overall volume is turned down. Conversely, as the volume is increased, the compensation is reduced, and the frequency response approaches a more linear or flat characteristic. This feature is typically implemented through a built-in circuit or software algorithm within the audio device, such as amplifiers, receivers, or even some headphones.

The goal of mürakompensatsioon is to provide a more balanced and pleasing listening experience across a wide range of volume levels. Without it, music or audio played at very low volumes might sound thin or lacking in impact because the bass and treble frequencies are not perceived as strongly.
