Määrittelemättömyyskohta, often translated as indeterminate form, is a concept in calculus that arises when evaluating limits of functions. It signifies a situation where the limit cannot be determined directly by substituting the value into the expression. Instead, the limit takes on a form that doesn't immediately reveal its value.

Common indeterminate forms include 0/0, ∞/∞, 0 * ∞, ∞ - ∞, 1^∞, 0^0, and ∞^0. These forms do not mean the limit is undefined. Rather, they indicate that further analysis is required to find the actual limit, if it exists.

Techniques such as L'Hôpital's Rule, algebraic manipulation, or series expansions are employed to resolve indeterminate forms. L'Hôpital's Rule, for instance, can be applied when the limit results in 0/0 or ∞/∞, involving taking the derivatives of the numerator and denominator. The goal is to transform the expression into a determinate form that can be evaluated. Understanding indeterminate forms is crucial for correctly calculating limits, which are fundamental to many areas of mathematics, including differentiation and integration.
