Mäntäpumput

Mäntäpumput, also known as piston pumps, are a type of positive displacement pump. They operate by the reciprocating motion of a piston within a cylinder to move fluid. As the piston moves outward, it creates a vacuum, drawing fluid into the cylinder through an inlet valve. On the return stroke, the piston moves inward, increasing the pressure and forcing the fluid out through an outlet valve. This cyclical action ensures a consistent flow of fluid.

There are several types of mäntäpumput, including single-acting and double-acting. A single-acting pump moves fluid in only one direction of the piston stroke, while a double-acting pump moves fluid in both directions, thus increasing the volume flow rate. They can also be classified by the number of cylinders, such as simplex (one cylinder), duplex (two cylinders), or multiplex (more than two cylinders).

Mäntäpumput are known for their ability to generate high pressures and handle a wide range of fluid viscosities. They are often used in applications requiring precise metering or the transfer of thick liquids. Common uses include hydraulic systems, fuel injection systems in internal combustion engines, and in various industrial processes for pumping chemicals, slurries, and viscous fluids.
