Männätilaa

Männätilaa is a Finnish term that translates to "piston displacement" in English. It refers to the total volume swept by all the pistons of an internal combustion engine in one full stroke. This volume is a key factor in determining an engine's power output and its overall size.

The calculation of piston displacement involves the bore diameter of the cylinders and the stroke length of the pistons. Bore refers to the diameter of the cylinder, while stroke is the distance the piston travels from its lowest point (bottom dead center) to its highest point (top dead center). The formula for the displacement of a single cylinder is pi multiplied by the square of the bore radius, multiplied by the stroke length. The total displacement of the engine is then this single cylinder volume multiplied by the number of cylinders.

Piston displacement is typically measured in cubic centimeters (cc) or liters (L). A larger displacement generally indicates a more powerful engine, as it can consume and burn more fuel-air mixture per cycle. However, displacement is not the only factor influencing engine performance; factors such as engine design, turbocharging, and fuel injection also play significant roles. In many countries, piston displacement is used for vehicle classification and taxation purposes.
