Muslimska

Muslimska is a Swedish adjective meaning related to Muslims or Islam. It is used to describe nouns connected to Muslim people, communities, beliefs or practices. The form is the inflected version used before plural nouns or in contexts where the adjective agrees with the noun it describes, for example muslimska samhällen (Muslim communities) or muslimska trosuppfattningar (Muslim beliefs). The corresponding base form is muslimsk, and in other plural or feminine contexts the ending changes accordingly.

The term derives from the noun Muslim, which refers to a follower of Islam. In Arabic, Muslim signifies “one who submits” to God, from the root associated with Islam. In Swedish, muslimska and muslimsk are part of a broader pattern of adapting foreign religious and cultural terms into adjectives that describe people, groups, or things related to that reference.

In Swedish, there is a related adjective islamisk, which more often denotes things pertaining to Islam as a religion or system (for example islamisk lag, Islamic law) rather than to people. However, both muslimska and islamisk can appear in scholarly or media contexts when discussing topics like Muslim communities, Islamic culture, or the religious practices of Muslims.
