Muruwari
Muruwari, also known as Murrawarri or Murawari, is an Indigenous Australian language traditionally spoken by the Muruwari people of northwestern New South Wales. The language belongs to the Karnic language family. Historically, the Muruwari territory encompassed an area along the Barwon River. Like many Indigenous Australian languages, Muruwari has faced significant decline due to the impacts of colonization. Efforts are underway by the Muruwari community and linguists to document and revitalize the language. This includes the creation of dictionaries, grammars, and language learning materials. The preservation of Muruwari is considered vital for the cultural identity and heritage of the Muruwari people. The language's grammatical structure and vocabulary offer insights into the traditional worldview and knowledge systems of its speakers. The oral tradition played a crucial role in transmitting Muruwari knowledge and stories across generations.
