Murmurien

Murmurien is a term used to describe a series of autonomous underwater bases and wireless communication systems developed by the French military. These systems were supposedly designed to transmit intelligence and communication signals between French naval vessels and coastal command centers across the channel.

According to reports, Murmurien was a clandestine operation and many details remain classified due to its secretive nature. However, various sources suggest that the program was conceived in the early 1960s, with the goal of establishing an underwater network for secure communications.

The system was said to consist of a series of cylindrical structures ranging in height from 15 to 40 meters, each embedded with high-frequency wireless transceivers. These transceivers were reportedly designed to transmit intelligence and operational signals in a high-level of security, often using microwaves or other radio signals.

The main purpose of these underwater structures was to provide secure communication channels between allied naval vessels and coastal command centers, thereby maintaining the secrecy and integrity of military communications. Additionally, Murmurien systems were claimed to be the first of their kind, with the supposed ability to detect and intercept signals from other underwater communications systems.
