Multipleksointi

Multipleksointi is a technique used in telecommunications and computer networking to combine multiple signals or data streams into a single channel. This allows for more efficient use of bandwidth and resources. Essentially, it's a way to send more information over the same transmission medium at the same time.

There are several common types of multipleksointi. Time Division Multipleksointi (TDM) assigns each signal a specific time slot within the combined channel. Frequency Division Multipleksointi (FDM) divides the available bandwidth into different frequency bands, with each signal occupying its own band. Wavelength Division Multipleksointi (WDM) is a variation of FDM used in optical fiber communications, where different signals are transmitted using different wavelengths of light. Code Division Multipleksointi (CDM) assigns unique codes to each signal, allowing them to share the same frequency and time but be distinguished by their codes.

The primary benefit of multipleksointi is increased capacity. Instead of needing separate physical connections for each data stream, multipleksointi enables the sharing of a single connection, reducing infrastructure costs and complexity. This is crucial for modern networks that handle vast amounts of data from numerous sources simultaneously. Without multipleksointi, the internet and telephone systems would be significantly less efficient and more expensive to operate.
