Multaj

Multaj is an Esperanto adjective meaning "many." It is used before a plural noun to indicate a large, unspecified number. Like other adjectives in Esperanto, multaj agrees with the noun in number and case: in the nominative plural it appears as multaj (e.g., multaj homoj), and in the accusative plural it becomes multajn (e.g., multajn homojn).

In comparative terms, pluraj is another common quantity word, often implying several or a number not as large as “many.” Multaj tends to emphasize a larger quantity, while pluraj can be more neutral or modest in scope. The adverb multe means “much” or “a lot,” and multa is used with singular mass nouns to indicate a large amount (e.g., multa mono).

Examples illustrate its use: Multaj homoj venis al la konferenco. (Many people came to the conference.) Mi vidas multajn librojn sur la tablo. (I see many books on the table.) Multe da homoj partoprenis la renkontiĝon, montrante broadan intereson.

Formally, multaj follows the standard Esperanto pattern for adjectives: it takes the plural ending -j in the nominative and -jn in the accusative, while the noun takes -oj for plural and -ojn for plural accusative. Its usage is straightforward in both written and spoken Esperanto.
