Muistirakenteet, or memory structures, are fundamental components of computer systems that store and manage data. They are categorized into two main types: primary memory and secondary memory. Primary memory, also known as main memory or RAM (Random Access Memory), is volatile and provides fast access to data. It is used for temporary storage of data that the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is actively using. It includes devices like hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), and optical drives, and is used for long-term storage of data.

Memory structures are organized into various levels to balance speed, cost, and capacity. Cache memory, located between the CPU and main memory, is a small, fast memory that stores frequently accessed data to reduce access time. Virtual memory is a technique that uses secondary memory to extend the addressable memory space, allowing the system to run programs larger than the available physical memory.

Memory management is the process of controlling and coordinating the use of memory resources. It involves techniques such as paging, segmentation, and virtual memory management. These techniques help optimize memory usage, improve system performance, and ensure efficient data handling in computer systems.
