Muinaiskreikan, often referred to as Ancient Greek, is the earliest attested stage of the Greek language. It was spoken in ancient Greece from approximately the 8th century BCE to the 6th century CE. This linguistic period encompasses the Mycenaean Greek of the Linear B inscriptions (dating from the 15th century BCE) and the subsequent Ancient Greek dialects that flourished during the Archaic and Classical periods.
