Motorvägs

Motorvägs is a Swedish term referring to a motorway or highway. These are major public roads, typically dual carriageways, designed for high-speed traffic over long distances. In Sweden, motorvägs are characterized by multiple lanes in each direction, separated by a central reservation. Access to motorvägs is usually controlled, with entry and exit points designed to minimize disruption to the flow of traffic.

The construction and maintenance of motorvägs are overseen by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). These roads are crucial for national transportation, facilitating the movement of both people and goods across the country. They are designed to handle a large volume of traffic safely and efficiently, often featuring speed limits higher than those on regular roads.

Motorvägs are distinct from "motortrafikled," which translates to "motor traffic road." While both are designed for motor vehicles, motortrafikled may have fewer lanes or less controlled access compared to a full motorvägs. The term motorvägs specifically denotes the highest standard of road infrastructure for long-distance, high-speed travel in Sweden.
