Morgul

Morgul is a fictional location that appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. It is the capital of the realm of Mordor and is also known as Minas Morgul, or the Tower of Sorcery. The city was once a Gondorian fortress called Minas Ithil, meaning Tower of the Moon, before it was captured by the Nazgûl, the Ringwraiths, and corrupted into Morgul.

The city is depicted as a place of dread and evil, surrounded by the Morgul Vale, a valley filled with foul air and corrupted by dark magic. Morgul itself is described as a city of pale stone, with a sickly green light emanating from its towers. It is a stronghold of Sauron, the Dark Lord, and serves as a base for his armies. The Nazgûl reside within Morgul, and it is from here that they launch their attacks.

The city plays a significant role in The Lord of the Rings, particularly during Frodo Baggins' journey to destroy the One Ring. Frodo and his companions pass through the Morgul Vale, and the city's oppressive atmosphere and the presence of the Nazgûl deeply affect them. Morgul represents the perversion of what was once beautiful and serves as a stark reminder of Sauron's power and the corruption that afflicts Middle-earth. The city's name change from Minas Ithil to Morgul signifies this transformation from a place of light to one of darkness and sorcery.
