Morarji

Morarji Desai was an influential figure in Indian politics, serving as the fourth Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. Born in Bhadeli, Gujarat, in 1896, Desai had a long and distinguished career in public service, spanning decades. He held various prominent positions within the Indian National Congress before his premiership.

Desai's political journey saw him serve as Chief Minister of Bombay State, a Union Minister for Finance, Home Affairs, and Commerce, and as Deputy Prime Minister. He was a strong advocate for democratic principles and was a key leader in the movement against the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi.

His premiership was marked by a coalition government, the Janata Party, which aimed to bring about significant political and economic reforms. Desai was known for his integrity, his commitment to Gandhian ideals, and his stern demeanor. He championed policies aimed at decentralization and self-reliance.

Despite his efforts, his government faced internal challenges, and he resigned in 1979, becoming the only Prime Minister to resign from office without a parliamentary defeat. Morarji Desai passed away in 1995, leaving behind a legacy as a principled leader who played a crucial role in shaping India's post-independence political landscape.
